Creating a Welcoming Student Space
BT Office Furniture was delighted to support Shooters Hill Sixth Form College in Greenwich, London, with the furniture and design of a new student waiting area within a modular building.
With the building providing a dedicated waiting and breakout area, the brief was to make the most of the available footprint while introducing furniture that would feel contemporary, comfortable and appropriate for a busy sixth form environment.
About UsThe Brief
The college required a flexible seating solution that could accommodate students throughout the day without making the space feel crowded or overly formal. It could be used as a waiting area between lessons, an informal social space or simply somewhere for students to sit and take a break.
The college also wanted to introduce colour into the scheme, creating a more engaging environment rather than a purely functional waiting area.
Space PlanningSpace Planning & Visual Renders
Before the furniture was installed, BT Office Furniture provided space planning and visual renders to help develop the proposed layout.
By considering the layout, circulation and intended use of a space at the design stage, furniture can be positioned to make the best possible use of the available area.
The visual renders also gave the college a clearer idea of the proposed furniture scheme, making it easier to assess the overall appearance and make decisions before installation.

For the main seating solution, we supplied the Terry Modular Sofa.
The modular design was particularly suited to the project as it allowed the seating to be configured around the shape and requirements of the room.
The seating creates an informal environment where students can comfortably sit together, wait between lessons, meet with friends or simply take some time away from the classroom.

The Terry modular sofa was specified in a selection of complementary blue fabric tones, creating subtle variation across the seating while maintaining a cohesive overall appearance.
Using different shades of blue adds depth and visual interest without overwhelming the space. The result is a more contemporary and welcoming student environment, demonstrating how carefully selected upholstery can be used to introduce colour and personality into an education setting.
