Innovating Bravery HQ with Cutting Edge Commercial Furniture

Bravery was a special store created by Toby Gutteridge, a former Marine. While serving in Afghanistan, Toby was hit by a bullet, which left him paralyzed from the neck down. Despite this, he had a strong desire to achieve something meaningful. He opened a shop in Poole to showcase his Bravery sportswear brand. The store did not just sell clothes; it also had a café and some offices on the first floor. He wanted to achieve an interior set up that promoted the brand, whilst working also as a backdrop for the products on show.

What problems were Bravery looking to solve?

Multi-Use Space: Adaptable furniture, that can be easily moved for various areas of the interior space.

High Traffic Area: Provide and specify durable and high-quality furniture, for high traffic areas in the café and shop areas.

Brand Awareness: Incorporate contemporary furniture that reflects the ethos of Bravery, by integrating company monochrome colour scheme with natural wood finishes to reinforce a cohesive visual identity throughout the interior.

Our Furniture and Space Planning Response

BT Office’s commercial fit-out initiative covered a variety of spaces within the Bravery footprint, which included:

Canteen Area: A well-designed, welcoming, and comfortable space. It features chairs covered in Camira, Vita vinyl fabric, which are easy to clean and maintain.

Open Plan Office: A small, efficient setup focused on teamwork. Bench desks with mobile pedestals matching the furniture in the downstairs areas.

Challenges Encountered in the Retail Fit-Out

The main challenges BT Office had to consider during the project development:

Space Maximization: Small area available, we had to ensure all necessary features fitted well. This required brainstorming and moving furniture using CAD software to create an effective design proposal.
Brand Identity: We also paid close attention to brand identity, making sure the furniture choices matched the interior design and branding goals.
Customer Engagement: A top priority, so we planned the layout to encourage a positive and welcoming atmosphere where customers could easily interact with the furniture.
Budgeting and Project Management: Finally, budgeting and project management were crucial; we worked hard to keep the project within budget while ensuring that the overall look was exactly what the customer wanted.

Our Solution: A Modern Break out Area and Office Space

To address the identified challenges, BT Office adopted a detailed and comprehensive approach:

Welcoming and Clean Design Aesthetic: Design proposal worked to ensure that the visiting customers to the HQ store felt welcomed.

Tailored Furniture Selection:  Furniture was specified that aligned with the Bravery’s brand identity, but the various needs required for the company to operate.

Delivered and Installed in a Timely Maner: Brief included a date where the Bravery would have liked to occupy the new, revamped space. We managed this expectation by working alongside our suppliers and manufacturers. We liaised with our delivery and installations team to schedule this in an efficient manner.

While transforming Bravery HQ, we learned some important lessons. First, we realised how essential it is to keep brand awareness in mind when choosing furniture. The furniture we picked should reflect the company’s identity and values, making the space feel connected to the brand.

Second, we discovered that access to the property needs to be planned well before delivering the furniture.We must ensure that everything can fit through the doors and stairways. Thankfully, the meeting room table made it up the stairs without any problems. We should have considered more carefully earlier in the project. We now consider and discuss earlier in the project development stage. Overall, these experiences taught us that good planning and clear communication are key to a successful transformation, helping us create a space that truly represents Bravery HQ.
